Requirements

HSL needs a modern Mac with macOS 14 or later, and a network connection for live journeys (Helsinki region).

Install and open

• Install HSL from the Mac App Store.
• Launch HSL from Applications (or Launchpad). A vehicle icon and countdown appear in the menu bar next to the clock.
• Click the icon to add a trip, line, or stop, and to see live options.

Permissions

Location is optional. Use Current location only if you want a trip to start from where you are. You can change this later in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.

Redownload

Redownload HSL from your Mac App Store purchases on any Mac signed in with the same Apple Account you used to buy it.

App Store purchases follow Apple’s refund policies - request a refund through Apple. See also Terms of Sale.

Common issues

• No menu bar icon. Check Applications for HSL, open it once, and look under the clock. On newer macOS, menu bar icons can sit behind the notch - try Control Center or System Settings → Control Center → Menu Bar Only.
• No journeys. The planner covers the Helsinki region. Search a known stop (Kamppi, Töölö) and check your walk / connection limits in Settings. If the proxy is down, wait a moment and tap Refresh.
• Location denied. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → enable HSL, then use Current location again when adding a trip.
